ZÉPHYROS WINDS, JANUARY 08. 2023
The Chamber Music Society of Utica’s opening concert of the new year, featuring Zéphyros Winds, took place on Sunday afternoon, January 8th. This unusual combination of instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn presented a sound and repertoire that was unique and interesting.
Our President, Susanna Watling welcomed the audience, both live and virtual, with clarity, brevity and enthusiasm.
Zéphyros Winds, now 30 years in existence, demonstrated a rich blend of timbres that resonated throughout. The repertoire allowed for each instrument to display their expertise of beautiful tone and technical proficiency.
The musical selections were introduced by each of the players. The bassoonist summed up the concert with the assessment that ” the music was an international buffet of different dishes, like a smorgasbord.”
There were many tasty delights from around the world!
