Named after Antonie Brentano, who many scholars believe to have been Beethoven’s mysterious “Immortal Beloved”, the ensemble was founded in 1992. It has since performed around the world (and here in 2000) with such luminaries as Mitsuko Uchida and Jesse Norman. The Quartet has won the first Cleveland Quartet Award, the 1995 Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the 10th Annual Martin Segal Award. Gathering accolades and honors as artists-in-residence at Princeton, New York University and London’s Wigmore Hall, the Brentano participates in summer festivals internationally and throughout the U.S. “Such was their ferocity…that the instruments almost burst into flames…” The Times (London)
